Back from hibernation, Fulham Town Hall reopens its doors to visitors.

Updated: Jun 29, 2021

Notoriously known to have been left derelict for the past decade, Fulham Town Hall has now been reconstructed into a temporary art exhibition.

The London based Victorian-style building will be hosting the Art in the Age of Now event running between May and June 2021, entirely free of cost to all visitors. The exhibition features a variety of events including, art exhibition tours, live performances, musical events, talks and readings.

According to the event description: "The exhibition is spread across the grand hall, the ball room, the court room, the mayor's parlour, the assembly rooms, the basement vaults, taking visitors on a unique journey of discovery."

As life begins to steer back to normality after a long period of ambiguity, artists are keen on sharing meaningful art that can resonate a message of hopefulness for the future to audiences.

The event description adds: "Many of the works have been produced in isolation during lockdown and will be exhibited for the first time. This will be a platform to support the capital's cultural community after a series of challenging lockdowns and a celebration of local artists and scenes."

After several visitors left positive feedback reflecting upon the featured artworks and performances, the exhibition has now been granted an extension by a few weeks from its original pull date.

However, the exhibition will be the last of its kind to be hosted in the former town hall before owners of the historic building redevelop it, "[giving] the iconic space a new lease of life as a creative, community hub and boutique hotel in 2022."

Organisers of the exhibition have been strict in following government safety guidelines against the spread of the coronavirus and have provided visitors with clear guidance about what to expect upon arrival. This includes a mandatory requirement of pre-booking tickets to the exhibition. By doing so, organisers aim to avoid long queues and unnecessary crowds, which may put other visitors and guests at risk.
